EA and BioWare's Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic is targeting more than two million subscribers, according to an analyst.

According to the latest report from Sterne Agee's Arvind Bhatia, The Old Republic - which EA is already calling its "largest ever development project, period, in the history of the company," - needs to acquire at least one million subscribers to recoup hefty development costs.

After exiting a meeting with EA, Bhatia reported: "Earnings are somewhat depressed due to ongoing expenses of the Star Wars MMO, management has high hopes for this and believes 2M+ subs is possible."

Apart from Star Wars, Bhatia also said that EA's seeing good momentum for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which "appears to be tracking well above expectations and combined with Mass Effect 2 and Dante's Inferno could drive upside in the quarter."

EA has previously confirmed that the Star Wars: The Old Republic release date will be set for sometime in spring 2011. KoTOR managed to sell a couple of million, so this will surely reach its subscriber targets. Right?
